Selling Tips:
Basic Selling tips
Selling is easier for some people than it is for others, but if you are determined to get into international trade, this is one aspect of your business, and perhaps your personality, that needs to be developed to its full potential in order to achieve success. The process of selling is a constant search for the right approach to close a deal:
Do not make exaggerated claims. Do not say your products, service or company is better than it really is.
When talking about products, always think of the benefit, which is really important to the buyer.
Try and convey to buyers your commitment to service, using quick and accurate replies to inquiries will demonstrate it.
Modify and refine your methods, and strive for consistency.
Ensure any big changes are based on solid feedback from your sales force.
Save and make more money through client retention, which usually costs less than acquiring new and unknown customers.
Selling & Negotiation:
Remember the most successful people in the world still make errors in judgment everyday, and it doesn't matter how well trained or how skilled you are, errors of judgment will always occur! How you deal with the problems they create makes the difference between being successful or being a want to be.
The biggest thing you need to learn, is that you are your own worst enemy. It is you, that is holding you back from the successes you deserve. There is nothing better than for me to see people overcome their fears in sales, negotiation and public speaking, as these are the basic tools you need to become a successful entrepreneur.
I once heard a very smart man say that "negotiators are the highest paid professionals in the world" and I believe this to be very true. A couple of other important sayings that caught my ears many years ago were, "Don't be scared of making decisions, as long as you get 51% of them right, all things being equal you're in front", and "procrastination is a recipe for disaster". All very true and worth a thought.
At the end of the day the skills developed through sales & negotiations can benefit you in many situations other than financial:
- How to get yourself out of confrontations in general life
- How to sell your point to people you may want to borrow money, e.g. for a new business venture
- How to promote yourself in every given situation
- How to talk to people & get them to believe you are a person worth listening to
- How to strike up a relationship with someone or maintain a relationship with someone
If you can come across as being a totally believable person, people will want to help you. Being able to get help when you need it, will help you to get what you want. It's very simplistic, sales should be a way of life. It's like eating and breathing and everything else. It should come naturally, it should be enjoyable and should be rewarding.
It should be a pleasure to go out and get yourself into a sales situation. Win or lose you have to come away with something. And each time you do it just means you are one step closer to achieving your goals. It's just like a musician that puts in that extra hour of training to make himself that much more of a better musician, and the football player that puts in that extra hour of training so he can become that much fitter, so he can enjoy his football more, and get the most out of every situation that arises on the field.
Every time you get into a sales situation you win no matter whether you get the sale or not, as long as you are honing your skills every time you go out. The beautiful thing about the sales and negotiation industry is that you get to meet so many different people on so many different levels that you get a better appreciation for life. This in it's self creates opportunities as you never know who or what the next person you meet can do for you. There is an old story about being in business, "it's not what you know, it's who you know". Try to meet as many people as possible.
